Tableau Prep
I lead the team and process of designing and build Tableau Prep, a brand-new product, making data prep visual, fun and playful. Tableau Prep Builder is a tool in the Tableau product suite designed to make preparing your data easy and intuitive. Use Tableau Prep Builder to combine, shape, and clean your data for analysis in Tableau. Note: Tableau Prep version 2019.1.2 had changed its name to Tableau Prep Builder and refers to the Desktop application.
Fall 2016 Observe and learn Joined tableau as design manager (people manager?) of designers in Palo Alto, Fremont and Vancouver BC working on (Big) Data. One of the designers worked on a special project: Project Maestro on a potentially new project: data prep. With existing product having reached maturity, LT was pressing for clarity/vision and progress and timelines..
Winter 2017 Stepping in.. Took the advantage of a hackathon week (+ managing a team of designers) and to dive into data cleaning & normalizing, and identifying common steps in the process. Invited PM to join. The output was a workflow storyboard with a series of steps - The vision became visible… Steps in the storyboard turned into projects, projects turned into teams, after a full re-org the entire (Big) Data org to make Project Maestro a reality.
Spring-Summer 2017 Scenario driven design Customers were actively involved in the design, development and testing process, bringing their data and scenarios. Each design & dev sprint was focused on a specific customer scenario not just work, but SHINE. This provided great focus not only for the project team but also LT and others in providing feedback.
Winter - Spring 2028 Introducing: ‘Moore’ By now, Project Maestro is announced and demoed at the yearly Tableau conference, and expectations are high. The challenges of the design team are shifted from UX problems to ensuring the experiences are cohesive, scalable and implemented as intended. There is a need for ‘Moore*’: a team & schedule dedicated to quality, but gets some pushback. ‘Extreme design with Clark’ saves the day. * All teams had names of 19th century composers incl. Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Verdi. I felt that Moore, a black, female composer would be a healthy addition.
